Placing an order (checkout)
The full checkout — choosing collection or delivery, a date and slot, entering details, delivery address validation, and the order review.
Checkout is a single page split into numbered sections. The customer works down it, and a secure order review stays visible on the side (or at the bottom on a phone) showing the running total.
Before you start
If the basket is empty, checkout shows "Your basket is empty" with a link back to the shop. Otherwise the customer sees the live checkout form below.
Section 1 — Fulfilment
"How would you like your order?" The customer picks one of two methods, then a date and a time slot.
Collection or delivery
- Collection — free, picked up from the Plaistow shop.
- Delivery — to an address inside the shop's mapped delivery area; a fee may apply (see the rules).
Pick a date
A calendar lets the customer choose a date, from today up to as far ahead as slots exist.
Pick a time slot
A dropdown shows the available windows for that date and method (for example "11:00 AM – 1:00 PM"). If none are free, the list stays on "Choose a slot".
Same-day cut-off
Same-day orders are accepted until 18:30 (London time). After that, the earliest a customer can choose is the next day. The checkout shows this reminder in the order review.
Section 2 — Your details
The contact details the shop needs to fulfil the order:
- Name (required)
- Mobile number (required) — so the shop can reach them about the order. UK
formats such as
07904 258454are accepted. - Email (required) — the receipt and updates are sent here.
- Order note (optional).
Guest checkout
Signing in is optional. A guest can complete an order with just these details. If the customer is signed in, these fields are filled in from their saved profile. See Accounts.
Section 3 — Delivery address
This section only appears for delivery orders.
- Address line 1 (required)
- Address line 2 (optional)
- Postcode (required) — checked automatically as it is typed
- City — defaults to London
There is also an interactive map: the customer can drop a pin on their location and the address fields fill in from it.
Postcode outside the area
As the postcode is entered, the system checks it against the shop's delivery area. If it falls outside, a red warning appears — "This postcode is outside our delivery area — delivery isn't supported there." — and the order cannot be placed for delivery. The customer can switch to collection instead.
The order review (side panel)
While the customer fills in the form, the secure order review shows:
- Each item (quantity × name) with its line total
- The subtotal
- The delivery line — "Collection" (free) or the delivery fee
- A minimum-order prompt if a delivery order is below the threshold — "Add £X.XX to meet the minimum order."
- The same-day cut-off reminder
- Any first-order discount note, if the customer has one waiting
First-order discounts apply themselves
If a customer arrived through a promo link or signed up with a promo code, the review notes that their discount "is applied automatically on the secure payment page". They do not need to type a code. See Accounts.
Placing the order
When the form is complete and valid, the customer submits it. What happens next depends on the payment method — that is covered in Payment & confirmation.
What must be valid first
- The basket has items.
- Name, mobile and email are filled in.
- A date and a slot are chosen.
- For delivery: the postcode passes the area check.
- Any required preparation choices were made (enforced back on the product page).
A short hold begins
At this point the system reserves the stock and the slot for 30 minutes so they cannot be taken by anyone else while the customer pays. If they do not finish, the hold is released automatically.
